   Overview

Background

The Vineyard subdivision -- later renamed The Vintage, as the community is known today -- was approved in the late 1970s. The development was planned in three phases. Work began in the early 1980s and was completed in 1987, after going bankrupt along the way.

The community has 100 residences:  60 single-family homes and 40 townhouses. In the center area of the development is a large common area of green space, and a gated 50' x 25' swimming pool and heated spa for residents and accompanied guests. Steps away are the Vintage Park and two public tennis courts. A 9-hole golf course, restaurants and shops are nearby.

The Town of Yountville

Yountville today has a population of about 3,500 people. About one-third of the population or 1,200 men and women live on the bucolic grounds of the Veterans Home of California. Founded in 1884 on about 900 acres, it is the largest facility of its kind in the United States. Veterans Home residents are aged and disabled veterans from World War II, the Korean War, Gulf War and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The town of Yountville was named after pioneer George Calvert Yount (1794-1865), the first Euro-American permanent settler in Napa Valley and is believed to have established its first vineyard. Located in the heart of Napa Valley, about 75 minutes from San Francisco, Yountville is renown for its acclaimed restaurants, award-winning chefs and picturesque location among the vineyards.
